As you may already know, Doug Smith was diagnosed with cancer last spring, which was discovered after he suffered a seizure over spring break. Initial treatments had mixed results, proving effective against some tumors while causing encephalitis, which led to a long stint in the hospital over the summer. 

Doug made a brief recovery earlier this fall; however, his condition has declined again despite a change in his cancer treatment. At the most recent appointment with the oncologist, Doug and Michele were given the devastating news that he only has 2 weeks to 2 months to live and is going on hospice care at home.
