Why I’m Asking for Help

I’m asking for $3,000 to help me get through an urgent transition over the next few weeks, and I want to be honest about how I got here.

For the past several months, I’ve been fighting to maintain stable housing while navigating a complicated legal situation with my landlord and roommates. During this time, my roommates put my belongings outside, my electricity was cut off, and I struggled to get necessary repairs and habitability issues addressed. I also felt that my landlord continued pursuing legal action while working with my roommates in ways that I believe were intended to pressure me into leaving without going through the proper eviction process.

I spent months searching for contingency lawyers, navigating the legal system, responding to legal issues, and advocating for myself because I was determined to protect my right to remain in my home. It took an enormous amount of time, energy, and emotional strength, and unfortunately made it much harder to establish stable employment at the same time.

I have continued applying for bartending positions and other jobs and have had interviews, but nothing has turned into consistent work yet.

I also want to take responsibility for my own decisions during this process.

I recognize that I made the decision to resign, and I take responsibility for that, even though I made it based on circumstances I believed were certain at the time.

My family was also initially hesitant to help me. In the beginning, my emotions were extremely high, and I felt neglected and didn't always communicate those feelings in the healthiest way. That caused strain in some of my family relationships, and they felt that having to navigate some of this on my own could ultimately help me grow stronger.

In many ways, it did. Being forced to navigate these systems on my own pushed me to find resources, advocate for myself, speak up, and become much more comfortable fighting for my own rights. I’m grateful for the strength and independence I’ve gained, even though I wish I hadn’t had to learn those lessons under such difficult circumstances.

Thankfully, I have finally reached an agreement with my landlord and have to be completely moved out by October 8th Which i did.. I will receive relocation assistance through the agreement, but my landlord signed the paperwork later than expected, and the payment now has to go through my legal aid team’s processing. Once processing begins,  I’m expected to wait approximately 7–21 days before I can access those funds.

That leaves me in a difficult gap: I have three days to move out, but I won’t have access to my relocation assistance for another 7–21 days.

I’m asking for $3,000 to help bridge that gap. The money will go toward temporary housing or an Airbnb, storage, transportation, food, and other basic expenses while I transition out of my apartment and wait for my relocation funds.

My family has now been incredibly kind in helping me share this fundraiser with their friends and family, and I’m genuinely grateful for that. I know asking for help can be difficult, and I don’t take anyone’s support for granted.

I’ve spent months fighting to get myself to a point where I can finally move forward. I’m not asking anyone to solve my life for me. I’m asking for a little help getting through this very specific window so I can safely leave, regroup, find stable work, and start rebuilding.

Anything helps. A donation, sharing this fundraiser, connecting me with a temporary place to stay, or even connecting me with a Reiki or energy healer who could help me process and release some of the emotional weight I’ve carried through this experience would mean so much to me.

Thank you for hearing me, believing in me, and helping me get to the other side of this.
