First off, I want to thank each of you for taking the time to read this.
My name is Shayla Ender-Hill, I’m writing this on behalf of my Dad, Brad Ender.
On the evening of Valentines Day (02/15/2025), we received very unexpected, terrifying news of an ongoing defensive fire at The Huli Huli Hut. As a result of this fire, the whole building including two other businesses within that building, suffered structural damage, smoke damage, water damage, and damage to the contents inside.
As many of you may know, my dad opened the Huli Hut in January of 2016. We watched him pour his life into building this restaurant 10 years ago before selling it in 2018 to the wonderful current owners, Adam & Cortney Lee. My dad created his vision of a perfect restaurant from the art work on the walls painted by Gary Holman to the details of adding a palapa to the handmade cedar tables and chairs. To see the Huli Hut in flames is truly heartbreaking and we are anticipating an awesome comeback from the Lee’s.
With that said, the two other businesses, The Stoned Cactus Saloon & Gulf Electric, both of which are owned by my Dad, are in bad condition.
Gulf Electric is a widely known company here in Galveston and 15 years ago, we watched my dad work endlessly to make his dream of opening and running an electrical company come to life.
When the Firefighters sawed opened the garage door to Gulf Electric, we soon discovered everything covered in soot and water damage to its structural components. Some of the things including work trucks and vans, the golf cart, ladders, furnishing, important documents, the walls and floors, etc. Many of the materials will have to be thrown out because these items are now unusable.
The Stoned Cactus Saloon opened last year and again, we watched as my dad and his previous business partner built the bar from the ground up.
The Stoned Cactus suffered damage to its east wall, along with smoke and water damage on to all the furnishings, the keg system, all alcoholic beverages, structural damage including shared electrical wires intertwined with the Huli.
I’ve seen miracles happen from the power of helping others and we are in need of help. We are not the type of people to ask for help, so this is very hard for us to do. However, we know we live around amazing people who come together in hard times. We are at the last of our resources and this is our plea for help from our beloved Galveston Community.
Thank you all again for your time.
Anything helps, it could be a donation or a prayer. We ask to please bare with us and continue to support the companies the community has grown to love <3
