About this fundraiser

Greetings to all,

I wish everyone well. My name is Amanda and I am the daughter of Lily. This fundraiser is to raise funds to help support my mother, Lily; as well as her family during her final days here on earth.

My mother was recently sent to the emergency room in April 2025, due to severe edema (fluid build up) in her lower extremities (legs/calves/feet) as well as her abdomen. She was also experiencing severe pain at the time. Once she had been admitted to the hospital and tests were performed, she was diagnosed with a blood clot in her leg, which a filter was placed to prevent it from traveling elsewhere, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and advanced stage liver cirrhosis. Due to my mother’s history of having a stem cell transplant back in February of 2022 due to Acute Myeloid Leukemia, the hospital also performed a bone marrow biopsy on her, only to find out that her cancer (Leukemia) was back. She is now no longer in remission. The oncologist that performed her stem cell transplant at Johns Hopkins has declined to perform chemotherapy on her due to the fact that it would kill her instantly.

After being released from the hospital, she went to a nursing facility to have rehab to try to gain her strength back, which never really did return. She was then discharged back home to me on July 2nd. I have taken her to appointments to have her ascites (abdominal fluid) drained and she has seen a GI doctor and her Hematology/Oncology doctor, who then informed her that she now has to go into hospice care. He then proceeded to inform us that she has at the most, 3 months left to live but more than likely less.

Yesterday, my mother had been taken back to the hospital to get a platelet transfusion so that they could place a Pleurix catheter in her abdomen in order for hospice to drain her abdominal fluid (ascites) at home. While there, hospice in the hospital wanted to meet with me to discuss the need to start hospice sooner than expected. The goal was to start next week, however; they want to register her on Saturday. They are now estimating her death to occur within a couple weeks.

My husband, sisters, and myself have missed days after days of work. We have exhausted sick/vacation time, are behind in bills, including medical, and are honestly at a loss of what do to. On top of that, we are trying to cope with the upcoming loss of my mother, even the loss we are currently experiencing with her now. She is in an almost constant state of delirium. She hallucinates, which medical staff say is part of the advanced liver cirrhosis. My mother‘ health is rapidly declining and we were never prepared for any of this to happen.

My mother never really had a good life growing up as a child, becoming a young adult, becoming married to an abuser, becoming an addict (she is a recovered addict now), losing her children to the system due to her drug addiction at the time, to now having to end her life like this. It saddens me that this is the way she will leave this world, especially when I feel so helpless in trying to change the outcome.

Although I am saddened that her time here on earth is limited, I know she will no longer be suffering in the end. We truly appreciate ANY and ALL that have taken the time to read my mother’s story. That enough is appreciated! If you feel it in your heart to share this story, please feel free to pass it along or make a donation. It does not matter the amount. I know and understand that these are trying times these days for many families, not just mine. My family is thankful and appreciative of anything and are forever grateful to those that have read, shared, and/or donated.

Have a blessed day!

Amanda
