About this fundraiser

Hello,

I have been living w/Meniere’s Disease x 6+ years. I am scheduled for surgery on Monday, 12/23. After trying every other less invasive approach or was determined that having a Labrinthectomy with Coochlear Implant was the best option for me to begin living again. I’ve been in a vertigo state since 9/22. I found out only after having a chemical deadening procedure to prep for surgery back in September that my UHC insurance discontinued their contract with the University of Utah on Dec. 31, 23. I didn’t know this until I tried to schedule my procedure. I have been paying hundreds of dollars that I thought was going to deductible and none of it is because of the contract. I’ve reached out to consumer affairs at UHC and have been heard but unable to get anything moving in terms of putting what I’ve paid toward deductible. I’ve fought like hell for a single case agreement and my procedure was approved. I keep getting denials on the other claims based on “timing.” I’ve asked for appeals and been denied. I am not one to be asking for help in this way. I’m a helper and this experience has opened my eyes about how many people are out there suffering needlessly from denied claims. Without getting help toward my deductible and hospital bill I am unsure what my future looks like. I’’m hopeful that correcting this will allow me to fully function as a human being. Between the cognitive fatigue and vertigo I am not sure from one moment to the next if ill be functional. I will be out or work for several months. Any help to get me through this is so greatly appreciated. Any residual funds will be donated to the Utah Victim’s Legal Clinic and to organizations that support people with vestibular conditions. Below is a link that explains my experience.

Any help you can ofree as I continue my fight with UHC/Optum to get my care fully covered is beyond appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your support in which ever way you can. I also invite you to learn as much as you can about your own policies so you know what your rights are and there are no surprises.

Warmly,

A
