About this fundraiser

Hello & thank you for taking your time to read my story. I'm a 45 year old single mother of an 11 boy. My son's father passed away when our son was 2 years old. Im legally blind and have been since I was 25 years old. At age 14, I was diagnosed with keratoconus. This disease is incurable. At age 25, I had a cornea transplant. I had many complications with the transplant. My vision didn't improve. Instead, it became worse until the point where I'm considered legally blind. I had a great career as a phlebotomist. I had a good life until my sudden and permanent loss of vision. I also was diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to the severe amount of depression I suffered after becoming homeless and helpless due to me not being able to work. I waited years on an approval from the social security administration for financial assistance. My son and I literally lived in a car. I wear glasses but they don't help much. Now, in 2024, there is a brand new technology. Smart glasses for legally blind people. I have done a lot of research on these glasses and I know that having a pair would change my son and my quality of life significantly. I would be able to go back to work as a productive citizen. I would be able to provide a decent lifestyle for my son and I. I can not afford the glasses. Insurance doesn't pay for them. My world would change for better and so will the future for my son. I want to become self sufficient again and I want to be the best mother I can be to my son. I want the feeling of being proud again. I want to see the world around me. I want to feel safe in this world be being able to identify my surroundings. I want to see clearly. I would give anything for my eyesight again. Please help me not only have a vision but have sight to see, live and thrive in the world that we all share.
