On July 9, 2011, my life was altered by a devastating car accident. Falling into a coma for three months, I was fully dependent on a tracheostomy to breathe and a feeding tube for nutrition. After a long waiting period for my family and friends, I awoke to a new reality with challenges and a long road ahead.

I sustained numerous broken bones, including a fractured leg that, critically, was never set properly. This injury has been a source of chronic pain in my hip and a constant reminder of my physical limitations. My lifelong passions, basketball, baseball and time at the beach became a painful memory, a stark contrast to my daily reality. While I push myself at Synergy Gym in Baldwin to stay in shape, the pain and irregular gait are a constant impediment to a truly active life.

After years of living with this challenge, I received life-changing news. I’ve had a consultation with Dr. Robert Rozbruch at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City, a world-renowned expert in limb lengthening and complex reconstruction. Dr. Rozbruch has identified a specific procedure that can correct my leg deformity and finally alleviate the limp that has been a constant companion since the accident. This isn’t just about a physical repair; it’s about unlocking a future where I can walk without pain, stand without discomfort, and truly embrace the world with both feet firmly planted.

This highly specialized operation, while offering the promise of a pain-free and mobile future, comes with a substantial financial burden. The cost of Dr. Rozbruch’s surgical fee is $50,000, and unfortunately, my insurance does not cover the treatment. Dr. Rozbruch has graciously offered to do the surgery for $25,000. This significant out-of-pocket expense stands as the last major barrier between me and the full recovery I’ve worked tirelessly for.
