About this fundraiser

This campaign is to help support Steven Shguit as he battles Cancer, specifically, Cholangiocarcinoma. While he has medical insurance, it does not cover hospital stays and other travel expenses while he is receiving treatment. In addition, he has not been able to work doing what he loves: teaching elementary school. This fund is to help alleviate the costs associated with his cancer treatments.

Background

The week of Thanksgiving is usually a restful time in the life of a teacher as you're recharging your social battery and enjoying sleeping in. To top it all off, Steven and his wife, Bety, had just celebrated the baby shower for their first child, Santiago, a two weeks prior. However, Steven felt pains in his abdomen and a loss of appetite. He went to the ER and then came back in for a biopsy the next day. Receiving a call the next week, he learned that the spots they found on his liver were indeed cancer but the doctors were unsure of the origin.

Diagnosis:

Stage IV cancer diagnosis at 41, getting ready to celebrate your one year wedding anniversary, and preparing for your first child to be born in February are a lot to handle at one time. After more procedures and tests, doctors in Dallas and MD Anderson (Houston) agreed that the diagnosis was Cholangiocarcinoma Stage IV.

Treatment:

Steven started chemotherapy on Friday, January 16th. Doctors are hoping that the chemo stops the cancer from spreading and lessons the cancer there now. We are praying for an NED diagnosis (No Evidence of Disease) with remission occuring at the very least.

Updates will be made available as treatment occurs. Please feel free to support him here monetarily, but, most importantly, through prayer and support.

Thanks,

Rob Bice
