Charles Prater, my father-in-law, was a man who had a lot thrown at him throughout his life, but would try to pick himself up the best he could no matter what. Mental health was something that he struggled with daily, and unfortunately was not talked about while he grew up. He did end up being somewhat of a wanderer in his life, traveling from state to state living a good portion of the last 10 years or more on the streets because of his mental health battles. And this also meant there was really no funeral plans in place for him. He was a father, husband, and grandpa. He was someone that would help when he could, and that always said, “I can fix anything but a broken heart.” He was a mechanic for a good portion of his life and so this quote is more then fitting when you look back on him. We were able to convince him to come to the town we live not too long ago and we spent what time we could with him, not realizing that it would be so short. We ended up rushing him to the hospital a little less then two weeks ago. They did what they could to get his body into a better state, but unfortunately his body was at a point that it really wasn't getting better. He was pretty far into liver failure which created multiple other health issues. He came to our home this last week on hospice and was able to spend his last moments around the ones he loved. He passed away this Sunday morning around 9:00 AM. This has been a very sudden expense and we are looking for whatever help we can to cover some of the costs. Anything is appreciated. He will be missed but his memory and the memories he helped his family make with him will live on.
He was survived by his four sons, Trevor, Travis, Toby, and Tyler. He also left behind 9 grandchildren: Rylee, Brenden, Caeleb, Connor, Colton, Lucas, Daisy, Rose, and Phoenix.
