About this fundraiser

Our father, Ralph, has been suffering with vascular dementia. over the last fives years. This is a deteriorating physiological condition which causes memory loss in older adults that can also cause problems with reasoning, judgment, and other processes caused by brain damage.

Ralph is a loving father, grandfather of four, and great-grandfather of two.  He served as a veteran in the Army National Guard for over 11 years.  He worked for 16 years for the Town of Westport and 12 years for the Town of Acushnet. He also worked part time serving various communities as the owner of a land surveying business as a civil engineer.   In 1972 he built a home with his father, father-in-law, and uncle that he raised his family in.

Unfortunately, with the decline of his mental health, over the course of two plus years he fell victim to an elaborate lottery scam taking him for well over $20K.  This was investigated by the I.R.S. and the culprit was arrested in August of 2025. However, it's highly unlikely that we will see any of these funds returned.  He also fell victim to two local elderly ladies on two separate occasions.  They took money directly from him while visiting him at his home.  These monies totaled closed to $20K.  One of these ladies was arrested, prosecuted and had to make restitution in the amount of $975 (the checks she wrote out).  The huge amount of cash she took couldn't be proved.

Just about a year ago he declined to the point where he could no longer stay at his home.  The first facility he resided in was an all cash pay only.  The amount exceeded his monthly income so his daughter and husband had to chip in the difference.  Had it not been for these individuals taking close to $40K, Ralph would have had enough money to cover the dementia facility.   His L.T.S.S. medicaid does cover half of expenses at this facility.  However, his retirement and social security are completely handed over to the dementia facility leaving him. with only $75 per month. We did pursue other avenues regarding other revenue sources such as the V.A. but he did not qualify.

Ralph was loved and respected by the community, co-workers and everyone that he crossed paths with.  He donated to over 25 charities over decades.  We are hoping and desperately seeking to raise money to help recoup the extensive money that was stolen fraudulently from this hard working, accomplished man, and loving father, grandfather, and great-father.
