We got his xrays back! It's a luxating patella, like the vet first thought. It's basically that his kneecap is loosey goosey - we're not sure if it's loose tendons causing this or a shallow groove where his kneecap is supposed to sit. Either way, it's not broken or fractured so that's good news. This is a genetic condition that he has apparently always had, but I have never seen Chubbs limp like this. He can barely walk on it. So I'm confused as to why it's very suddenly showing up now. The bad news is that the only way (that I know of) to fix this is surgery. I'm going to do everything I can to avoid that route - maybe we can do kitty PT.

His sneezing is much better since he's been on the nasal drop medication. He's currently tapering off the steroids, and his breathing has been normal and consistent since he got home from the emergency vet. Phew.

The vet said she's not sure what's causing him pain right now, as allegedly a luxating patella doesn't hurt (sounds wild to me). But he's definitely not comfortable right now, even on gabapentin, so they're upping that dose. I'm hoping it has a form other than liquid because taking medication is super stressful for Chubbs. We're taking him in this afternoon for a ketamine shot (!!!!!) which should do more for the pain than gabapentin.

Thanks for keeping up with Chubbs, and thank you again so much for donating!!

About this fundraiser

Chubbs, my angel and my baby boy, had a very strange reaction to something I let him sniff, and his breathing rate was very high afterwards. This was alarming, so I brought him to the emergency vet. They said he has asthma and the strange reaction he had was likely an allergic reaction. He will be okay, we just need to get him on an inhaler.

Unfortunately taking him to the emergency vet, getting X-rays, blood work, and medication are all very expensive. Just to get him in the door was $232, and the X-rays and blood work were close to $1k. His meds were over $500. I'm making the goal a bit bigger than what the vet cost to account for future medication and vet visits to ensure his meds are working.

If Chubbs has brought you any joy, as he has for so many of us, please consider donating and/or sharing.
