Hello everyone my name is Jen, and I am fundraising to help my ex-husband get back on his feet. This time last year, Dave had a stroke, and was diagnosed with heart and kidney failure, complicated by his diabetes. He also suffered partial left side paralysis, which left him using a walker to get around, memory loss, and aphasia.
His grandmother, who he lived with passed away in October. She was the reason he got out of bed every day. He has had severe depression since his stroke and it got worse after his gram passed away. I tried to let him be as independent as possible and let him handle his finances and health care on his own. I recently found out I was wrong to do that.
Two weeks ago I had to call an ambulance for him, because he couldn't sit up in his bed when I went to check on him. Since then, he has had three surgeries, each amputation a little bit more of his left leg below the knee.
The day after I got him into the hospital I went to clean up his house and discovered his electricity and water had been turned off. He has to pay a $600 deposit to have it turned back on. Two days later when checking his mail, I found out he hasn't paid his gas bill and it will be turned off if he doesnt pay $750. Next came the bill for the property taxes, another $4,000.
He is going to need renovations on his house, to accommodate him being in a wheelchair, there are electrical problems, and a recent storm broke one of the sky lights. I am not able to support him financially, I just don't make enough money to support two households.
I don't want him to lose his home on top of losing his leg below the knee, and his grandmother And that is why I'm asking for help to figuratively get him back on his feet and able to lead a healthy life in a home that is safe and practical for someone with his disability and health problems.
I've gotten a power of attorney so I can get him set up on disability, and get him a home health care person. I also need to put his grandmother's house through probate, so he will be able to stay there as long as he likes. Any and all help would be appreciated. He has so many things going wrong, it would mean so much to help him get a few things going right. If you can't donate, sharing with your friends and family would be a great help as well.
Please help me help Dave.
