About this fundraiser

This is a fundraiser to benefit Steve Gray and his family for medical related expenses. The ultimate goal is to get Steve to an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in order to progress his function and mobility. Steve suffered a major and very rare stroke in March of this year while out of state in Texas for work. He was diagnosed with “locked in syndrome.” The family had to spend a large amount of their personal savings in order to have him Angel flighted back to Wichita for long term acute care. Due to his current status and not being completely off the ventilator (although very close and only using it overnight) he is not eligible for rehab at this time. He is unable to speak however he can communicate with the use of a communication board. He passed his cognitive exam with flying colors. Steve is making progress with regaining movement but therapy has been very limited in the acute care setting. Insurance restrictions are requiring him to go home before he is able to get a chance at rehab. Steve is not able to sit up without support and is currently getting his nutrition through a feeding tube. The family will be taking him home next week and providing 24/7 care with home health visits. The ultimate goal is to get Steve off the ventilator so that he can be evaluated for inpatient rehab where he would receive physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy 5 days a week. Regardless if he is able to get to rehab or not the family will have ongoing medical expenses. If Steve is able to get to rehab Zane will be going to stay with him and will have expenses for a hotel. Let's rally together and give Steve the best chance at reaching maximal functional potential! The family will be very grateful for any support and prayers for this long journey of recovery they have been on for nearly 3 months already and knowing there is a long way to go. If you know Steve, you know he is a fighter and a hard worker and not the type to give up or ask for help. He can do this, we can help!
