  • The Latest - Chemo Side Effects & More Treatments

First of all, thank you to everyone for their support, whether it's donating, reaching out with well wishes, sending a gift or even sharing the link. It means so much to us!

Secondly, G had a consultation with her breast surgeon on 11/24 and her 2nd round of chemo on the 25th. We're a third of the way there with only 4 treatments remaining! However, we did learn from the breast surgeon G will need to undergo radiation after chemo and a double mastectomy. Due to Gretta's aggressive grade of cancer, a double mastectomy is highly recommended to increase chances of efficacy of curing for life. Which is what G wants! The double mastectomy & lymph node removal can happen 4-6 weeks after the last round of chemo. If all goes well - that'll be 2/18/26. After the double mastectomy/lymph node removal she will start radiation for 3-5 weeks and then can get breast implants with a separate plastic surgeon. As of right now, the 2 plastic surgeons G's breast surgeon uses do not accept her UHC plan, so we're going to work with them and see what we can do!

Lastly, for anyone that wanted an update on how chemo is impacting Gretta - it hasn't been fun. Body aches, joint pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, lack of appetite. It attacks all of your quick dividing cells, so her skin, hair, GI tract are all under attack and can she definitely feel it. The nurses administer a pre-chemo mix of steroids and anti-nausea medication that only do so much unfortunately. G has a list of medications she takes at home to combat some of the symptoms.

She feels very fortunate to have a job that's giving her time to recoup and thankful for all her friends and family constantly bringing joy. All in all, we have a longer road ahead but appreciate everyone's support thru it all! Love y'all.

About this fundraiser

Thank you for taking the time to read Gretta's cancer story.

Gretta has inflammatory ductal carcinoma in her breast, HER2 positive.  She will need blood work, a PET scan, and another biopsy as her last MRI showed a lump deeper in her breast.

The oncologist wants chemotherapy to begin as soon as possible. Once treatment starts, she will be immunocompromised, so will not be able to venture out or work.  The doctor predicts Gretta may feel okay the first few treatments, but by the fourth or so she will be very nauseous and very sick and very tired.  She will lose her hair and may have great pain in her fingers and toes.

Gretta will be meeting with a breast surgeon to discuss whether they can perform a lump ectopy or a mastectomy.  If a mastectomy is needed, it will be both breasts and an additional surgeon for reconstruction.

Gretta has a long road ahead filled with treatments, extensive medical bills and without the ability to work. All this adds to the already mounding stressors of a cancer diagnosis. It's difficult to know how to help someone through something like this. But financial support is a great start. Please donate what is comfortable for you, and if you're able add a few extra dollars. The additional dollars keep this amazing site running, as they are a no-fee platform.

Again, thank you for taking the time to support our Gretta.

Love,

Linda, Ruben, Heidi & Paige
