Last year, I was injured on the job, and the workman's comp checks just weren't enough to cover our bills. While I was still recovering, my family and I were evicted from our home. Even after I completed all my physical therapy, my job never called me back. Last Christmas was rough, but we managed to get through it with a few gifts for my wife and kids. Since then, we've been moving between hotels and staying with friends and family, as I haven't been able to find steady work. I've been doing Craigslist gigs and delivering for Uber Eats, but it's tough—especially when you're riding a beach cruiser in the cold and rain. Most days, it's just enough to keep a roof over our heads.
Now that Christmas is here again, I don't have anything set aside for gifts for my wife and kids. I'm not doing this for myself—I'm doing it for them. I want to see the smiles on their faces and give them a little bit of joy during the holidays. I've gone without Christmas many times, but it hurts to see my kids miss out. I'm not asking for a lot, just enough to get my wife and kids a couple of gifts. If there's enough, I'd love to put it toward stable housing or maybe a car, but my main hope is to make this Christmas special for my family.
I'm not giving up, but it's hard when you see your kids' faces and there's nothing under the tree. Any support you can give would mean the world to us. Thank you for helping us find hope and happiness this holiday season.
