Help a Kind Friend Get Back on His Feet
I’m sharing this because I’d like to help my friend avoid eviction. Every day, he shows me new ways a friend can show they care. He’s always checking in on people, asking if they are okay, and wishing them a great day. Even when he’s having hard days, struggling to make ends meet, and has every reason to be upset or not act kind—he is always kind to others, including strangers.
What Your Support Will Do
Any funds raised will be used to support his basic needs: getting caught up on rent, paying bills, buying food for him and his dogs. If possible, funds will also help him get a car for better transportation to a job or put down a deposit at a healthier apartment.
The Challenge He’s Facing
Life has been relentless for him, throwing one obstacle after another in his path. Though he keeps fighting, he’s falling behind. Recently, his job cut his hours to zero with only a couple of days’ notice. This was already a paycheck-to-paycheck job. Every day he’s not working there, he’s out searching for more stable employment. He bikes everywhere. On top of that, the apartment he’s living in won’t fix his AC, his heater caused a fire last year and still doesn’t work properly, and the ceiling leaks water and is covered in mold. He’s living in unhealthy conditions but can’t afford to leave this apartment.
Why I’m Asking for Help
I’ve been in this position before. I’ve needed help, and when I did, my people pulled together and showed up for me. That’s the only reason I’m in a position to even consider helping someone else now. I have a huge support system. Not everyone is so fortunate.
I can only help a little—not enough to make a real difference alone. But I thought, maybe that’s what most people I know could do. They would give me a little if I needed it. This is someone I love, so maybe they’d be willing to give a little to him.
Even if you’re not able to donate, sharing this post with your network could make a huge difference.
A Vision for Kindness
I’d love to see this become one of those acts of kindness you see in videos — where coworkers chip in to buy a car for the hardworking teammate who bikes to work every day. I believe this can gain momentum and truly change a life.
I’ve made this post public so it can be shared as widely as possible. I’m just trying to show someone who is loved, that they are loved, and that the world cares. Even if he doesn’t have a support system, maybe mine—and yours, and theirs—can become that for him.
A Message From My Friend
I’m 28, from South Carolina, and I live in Kansas. I moved here two years ago to build my life. I live alone with my two dogs in an apartment. I’m a hard worker, and I take pride in doing hard work and doing a good job.
I work part-time and either ride a bike or walk to work depending on the weather. I’m currently looking for full-time work. I’m punctual and polite, and I show up on time with a good, clean attitude. I have a background in construction and landscaping. I’m looking to save for a vehicle so I can widen my search for work and be more reliable.
I go to a food bank once a month to help with food costs, and I have a few months of food stored. Working part-time, I’m only able to pay for rent and utilities. Due to a layoff at work, I’m currently behind on rent, and every day it’s late, they add fees. The apartment I live in doesn’t have central heat or air, and the ceiling leaks. The ceilings are also moldy and I'm perpetually sick.
I’m trying to better my situation and get on my feet so I can help others.
The money donated will go toward getting caught up on rent, and the rest will go toward funding a vehicle. Anything you can give helps more than you know, and it will go to good use. Thank you.
Thank you so much for reading and for any support you can give — whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this. Every little bit helps.
