I’m Crissy, and I’m urgently reaching out to my Fresno community because my home on E Cornell Ave has just been declared unlivable. Last night, an old main sewage line in our building suffered a catastrophic blockage and backed up straight through my apartment floorboards. Within two hours, my living space was flooded with three inches of contaminated black water.
The water has completely ruined our carpets, baseboards, and several pieces of essential furniture. To make this nightmare worse, my standard renter’s insurance policy has a specific 'sewer backup exclusion' and is refusing to cover a single cent of the immediate mitigation. The remediation company requires a $5,400 upfront deposit for toxic water extraction and industrial structural drying to prevent black mold. As an hourly worker, I don't have that cash sitting around. I am swallowing my pride to ask for help so I can make this environment safe for my family again. Please share or donate if you can.
