About this fundraiser

Story:

Nine years ago, on one October night, everything changed in an instant.

He was simply on his way to visit a friend when he made a sharp turn and overcorrected. In seconds, his vehicle flipped six times. By the grace of God, he had no cuts, no bruises—no visible injuries at all. But when he came to, he couldn’t move. He couldn’t speak. He couldn’t even call out for help.

All he could do was pray and call out to his mother in his mind, hoping somehow she could hear him.

Eventually, someone reported the accident, and paramedics arrived. He was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where doctors delivered devastating news: his spinal cord was fractured, and he would never walk again. He would spend the rest of his life confined to a wheelchair—just like Christopher Reeve.

At first, he couldn’t even breathe on his own. His body became his greatest battle.

For months, he lay in a hospital bed, uncertain of what his future would look like. But slowly, he fought his way back—regaining the ability to breathe without assistance and eventually having his feeding tube removed. With hope in his heart, he returned home to his family.

And that’s where a new kind of fight began.

He now depends on the care of his elderly parents, along with help from his brother and sister—who have families of their own. This wasn’t something anyone in the family was prepared for. They’ve done everything they can, but the weight of caregiving, finances, and daily life has been overwhelming.

For a long time, he wasn’t approved for Medicaid, leaving his family to pay for medications out of pocket. They had to make impossible choices—deciding which medications were most important and which they simply couldn’t afford.

When Medicaid and disability were finally approved, it felt like a breakthrough… until reality set in. His disability income is only $500 a month—barely enough to cover basic medical supplies, let alone provide for his four children. Physical therapy, which he desperately needs, isn’t fully covered.

As the years have passed, his mother’s health has declined after multiple major surgeries, making it even harder for her to care for him. The visits from friends have grown fewer. The man who once couldn’t sit still—full of energy and life—is now confined to his home.

Right now, even getting to a doctor’s appointment is a challenge most of us couldn’t imagine. Because he does not have accessible transportation, he has to be transported by ambulance just to go to the doctor. This is not only incredibly expensive, but it also limits how often he can receive the care he needs.

And that’s why we’re here.

We are raising funds to purchase a handicap-accessible van—something that would completely change his life. A van would allow him to attend medical appointments without relying on emergency transport, spend time with his children, and regain a sense of independence and dignity.

This isn’t just about transportation—it’s about giving him a piece of his life back.

If you feel led to give, no amount is too small. And if you can’t donate, sharing this story would mean just as much.

Thank you for taking the time to read his story, for your prayers, and for any support you can give. ❤️
