PLEASE HELP A FRIEND GET HER DAUGHER BACK FROM HER EX-HUSBAND AND STOP THE PHYISCAL AND SEXUAL ASSAULT!

BACKGROUND

About a year ago, my friend J. finally found the courage and opportunity to leave her abusive husband. Initially she was ecstatic to finally be in control of her life again but he continues to try and destroy her spirit by fighting for sole custody of their 4 year old daughter!

He is a narcissist and an expert at presenting himself as stable, upstanding, and responsible but he is anything but that. J. has been desperately trying to pay her day-to-day bills while also paying for her legal fees in her custody battle. He was able to obtain custody because she had to do to a domestic violence shelter when she first left. She now has a safe place to live, a job, and a therapist to help her deal with the financial, emotional, and physical abuse of their relationship.

WHERE THINGS ARE NOW?

Recently things have escalated. J.'s daughter has told multiple people including J. that her father has been physically and sexually abusing her. J. needs to get her daughter out of that situation immediately! There have been multiple CPS reports filed but he has been so good at covering things up that they haven't seen the need to immediately remove her from his custody. J. has a hearing about the case and needs her lawyer and therapist at the hearing to provide the strongest case for temporary custody while the divorce and main custody case move forward.

WHAT DOES SHE NEED?

J,'s lawyer is looking into the Ohio Domestic Violence Network (OVDN) to see if they are able to pay for at least some of the legal fees but that process is moving slowly. Her therapist needs a retainer immediately and charges hourly rates for the legal consultation. (this is the company policy, not the individual therapist's) There are additional legal fees from the other open cases that J. has been trying to make payments on.

In short, she needs $250 ASAP for her therapist's retainer and $100 per hour after that. She doesn't have a price yet from the lawyer for the latest case but if ODVN is not able to help it will be another $1000-$2000. She also needs help with her other open cases. Her work tends to be seasonal so while she was making quite a bit before Christmas, things have fallen off lately and help with day-to-day expenses would be great.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

• You can pay her directly for the IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY EXPENSES such as the retainer. I can provide you with more information if you take this option.
• You can provide her with paid work. She is a photographer and also a great housekeeper! (I pay her to help clean the house every few weeks and she does a great job)
• If you have any resources she might not have thought of that can provide IMMEDIATE or ongoing assistance please let me know and I will pass it on. She has checked all of the obvious and usual resources but there are always some that are less visible.
• If you really can't provide any financial assistance you can send her a note (I'll pass it on) showing your emotional support.
• YOU CAN SHARE THIS FUNDRAISER with everyone you know. The more people who see it the more likely she'll hit her goal.

WHY AM I RUNNING THIS AND NOT HER?

The open legal cases severely restrict what she can share publicly. I don't have those restrictions so I'm helping out. Her closer and older friends who know her ex are also very afraid to help directly as he may (and will) harass, threaten, or attack them, or worse yet, take it out on their daughter.
