We rescued Pytheas when he showed up in a horrible state on our street in November. His condition was so critical that it would be almost impossible for anyone to recognize him in his recent photos. He was given slim chances, but he surprised us all – he is now an absolute long-haired beauty! It took 10 days of hospitalization, months of intensive medication and vet care, and a lot of patience during his 5-month stay in our home!
After his long battle with FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and the chronic infectious diseases that his suppressed immune system had allowed, Pytheas is doing great and has finally found his forever home thanks to Maria and Nikos, the lovely couple who adopted him. We couldn't be happier for him and his new family :)
However, there is still one lingering health issue that hasn't been properly diagnosed or treated. Pytheas is suffering from a neurological condition, most likely caused by polyps in his inner ear canals. The symptoms include constant ear discomfort, a tendency for frequent ear infections, as well as nausea and mobility issues. Proper diagnosis requires an MRI scan and, if confirmed, surgical removal of the polyps is necessary to relieve his symptoms and avoid future complications.
Unfortunately, both diagnosis and surgery are very costly. Maria & Nikos did the most wonderful thing by opening their home to an adult ex-stray with health problems. The least we can do is help them cover part of the costs necessary to give Pytheas a long, happy and healthy life!
