....I'm 72 years old and, until recently, worked overnight maintenance at Walmart in Lexington, VA for nine years. Over time, the cleaning crew shrank and the workload grew heavier. My last year was especially difficult, as my supervisor tried to push me out, not wanting someone my age on the team. He eventually terminated me, falsely claiming misconduct. I used up my savings searching for a new job, but living on social security alone isn't possible. I applied for unemployment, and the commission found no misconduct, and approved my emergency benefits, but Walmart appealed with dishonesty and my benefits were denied. I now owe the state $ 2,900,00 dollars for benefits the commission had approved. Finding work at my age has been nearly impossible. Employers say, "The position's been filled," or, "We're looking for someone with more experience," but I know age is the real barrier. I also face health challenges. Acute depression vertigo attacks, a painful shoulder injury from my trucking days, and artery problems. Overcame severe alcoholism and have had none for 31 years. A day at a time. I'm now the sole survivor of my family, having lost my siblings, older brother Jan. 25' and older sister Nov. 25' in this past year. My parents and younger brother over the past years. My closest friend and neighbor passed away four years ago. My cat family brings me comfort, but I've lost five beloved kitties recently to blood illness and 1 old age. I've posted some photos of them and my favorite baby deer, Marble, who was sadistically killed for his pelt during hunting season. Buffy, my little angel puppy also left me.
A home without critters is an empty one, especially during the holidays. I do my best to stay positive and hopeful, but it's hard without the support I once had. I pray a lot. I've worked nearly 55 years in many jobs, and now my goal is to work from home. I'm a member of AWAI (American Writers & Artists Institute) and want to pursue copy writing, but the courses and mentor ships can be expensive. I also have a screenplay I've developed over the years. Though I was married once and have no children, I hope to leave something behind to show I was here. God bless you all.
Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to hear my words. I openly invite your support. A contribution of any size would be greatly appreciated.
