On January 24th, my sister Tabitha Carr had emergency surgery overnight to repair a whole in her stomach called laparoscopic repair of perforated marginal ulcer after roux-en-y gastric bypass. It started with a gas attack at 3:05p that just wouldn't ease up so she went to the ER. The reason was free air in the abdomen. It escaped through a small hole on the backside of her stomach. The hole was caused by an ulcer that she understands is identical to last year's which she was taking preventative measures to avoid repeating for this exact reason.
Recovery is expected to be 2-4 weeks off work and regular activities. Diet changes will be longer. She currently has a feeding tube installed to help avoid all food going through the repaired part of the stomach. The feeding tube will be removed in a few weeks hopefully.
As Tabitha is healing over the next 2-4 weeks, we are hoping to ease some of the financial burden of being out of work with no pay. Tabitha has been a para educator in the Bellevue School District since September 2023, sadly too short of time to qualify for FMLA or state benefits. She loves her new home and job but just needs a little help to get through this unexpected emergency. All funds will go to medical expenses and daily bills while out of work. Thank you so much for any amount of help you are able to provide.
