About this fundraiser

In August 2023, Our family was confronted with a heart-wrenching reality: my sister-in-law Stacey Lusk was diagnosed with a stage 3 brain tumor, specifically a glioma. Tragically, this has now progressed to Glioblastoma, stage 4, despite our hopes that radiation therapy would be effective. The tumor, initially 3 cm and located near the brain stem, has made surgery impossible.

Their ordeal began in May with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and severe dizziness, severely impacting her ability to work. Initially, she thought it was a virus or COVID, but by July, her condition worsened. Urged by my niece, a nurse, she finally sought hospital care. It was not until early August, after several misdiagnoses and an MRI, that the brain tumor was identified as the cause of her symptoms.

My brother, Michael Lusk is now facing an overwhelming situation, as he cannot leave Stacey alone due to her severe condition. Her symptoms have worsened with the tumor's progression to stage 4, deepening their need for him to be with her consistently.

The financial strain on the family is increasing. Stacey's short-term disability benefits and insurance coverage are coming to an end, and they will soon have to transition to COBRA for healthcare which is daunting given their limited income. We hope this fundraiser will help relieve some of their financial stress, allowing them to focus on treatment and care.

The side effects of her ongoing treatment have been harsh. She has been on steroids since her diagnosis, leading to swelling, muscle weakness, and blurry vision, which contributes to her dizziness. Although the oncologists attempted to wean her off the steroids, a recent MRI showed that the tumor has grown and is now a more aggressive Glioblastoma. The 3 cm tumor is larger and has new growth, explaining the worsening of her symptoms.

The impact on my brother Michael and their three children, Mason, Michaela and Noelle is immense. They are struggling to cope as they watch their wife and mother fight this battle. They recently became grandparents, with a five-month-old grandson, Miles adding to the emotional complexity of the situation.

I have been reluctant to share their story publicly, respecting their privacy. However, I feel now is the right time to reach out for support. This fundraiser on personal appeal to friends and those who know my dedication to helping others. We need your help to support them through this incredibly challenging time.
