my husband, Danny was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer two years ago. We had to fight for months to get an MRI done on his shoulder. When he was finally sent over to sports medicine, they gave him a Cortizone shot into his tumor and refused an MRI. He went through physical therapy, which made it worse. He could not lift up his right arm without using his left arm to pull it up. As you can imagine being a commercial roofer work became hard.
One hour after coming out of the MRI machine, we were informed that we would have to move quickly because they were 99% sure it was cancer. North Northwestern in Chicago was offered to us as an option for treatments. We ended up with a wonderful oncologist, who let us know conventional chemo would not likely work. She offered us a trial treatment plan. This will give him at least two years to live.
in the beginning, there were a lot of tests that needed to be done and we were three hours away so we had to stay in hotels and travel a lot. This really put a strain on us financially, but his life is worth it. We are now two years into the treatment and we go once a week. The doctors are amazed at how well he is doing. They don’t know what to expect other than for him to try to live as normal of a life as he can for as long as he can. We went from not expecting two years to now they are saying 10. As long as this trial treatment keeps the cancer from growing. We will continue on this path. It ha has shrank the tumor 77%. It has been stable like this for five months.
now we are trying to play catch-up and are having trouble being able to get all the bills paid and caught up. That is why we are asking for help. We are losing our home that is our comfort zone, where we’ve raised our children, and where our grandchildren know and love. If you can help in anyway, it would be greatly appreciated. We love each and everyone of you who has taking the time to read our story. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
