About this fundraiser

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Leonel "Lion" Santillanes—a beloved son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.

His journey of 57 years was filled with love and laughter, but also with many challenges. And yet, he faced each one with unwavering determination. He endured profound losses and overcame obstacles that many would have found insurmountable.

Even after the life-altering effects of his illness, including the loss of both legs, he refused to let it define him. With incredible resilience, he learned to walk on prosthetics, figured out how to drive again, and, most importantly, found the strength to spend quality time with his grandkids, Jenny, Jay and Noah, all of whom he adored; never showing his struggles, only his love.

Doctors often said he had cheated death, but it was his faith and relentless tenacity that kept him going. He fought harder than most ever would, determined to hold on despite the suffering.

Yesterday afternoon, Lion’s body could no longer keep up with his indomitable spirit. Surrounded by those who loved him most, he took his final breath peacefully and free of pain.

As Lion did not have life insurance, the financial burden of funeral expenses now rests on his family. We want to honor his strength, love, and resilience by giving him a proper farewell and we ask for your help to make that possible.

Any contribution, big or small, to help cover the costs of his funeral and memorial service would be deeply appreciated. Every donation will go directly toward laying Lion to rest with dignity and love.

If you are unable to donate, we completely understand—your prayers, kind words, and sharing this fundraiser with others would mean the world to us.

Thank you for your support during this very difficult time. Your generosity and kindness will help us honor Lion’s memory.

With gratitude, Cynthia
