I'm a 60 y.o. guy. In September 2013, I started having horrible headaches and started seeing double. After 5 doctors looking and treating for the wrong illness, I finally found the right doctor, and he diagnosed me with brain cancer. I was hospitalized for 7 days. I had a biopsy done, and doctors found out my tumor was malignant and inoperable.

They recommended chemotherapy and radiation treatment, which I finished by the end of December 2013.

After almost a year dealing with side effects, I ended up with a hospital bill of about 1/4 million dollars, which is taking most of my savings. I'm still trying to work to pay it off. Also, in September 2024, I had eye surgery to repair the nerves that the tumor damaged, which was the reason for me seeing double. Another $5000 dollars. It's been very hard to pay rent, gas, insurance, utilities, groceries, etc., and now with this economy, it's getting harder to meet those bills.

After going back to the hospital for my follow-ups, getting MRIs, CT scans, and blood work every six months, everything was good. The cancer was in remission until the last follow-up in November 2025. I did all the studies just like I did every six months, but this time doctors didn't have good news. CT scans showed the cancer has moved to one of my lungs. Studies found a 5mm growth on my right lung.

Now I'm scheduled to go back in January 2026 to start treatment. The doctor wants to get in and get a biopsy, and after that, plan for the type of treatment I will be needing.

I am struggling with my problems and money. I'm thinking very seriously about moving back to Mexico and just living the rest of my life with family and friends if I don't raise enough money to pay my present hospital bills and future CTs, maybe MRIs, blood work, and doctor's visits, and the most scary bill, the hospital when or if I get treated for my new cancer.

Soy un hombre de 60 años. En septiembre de 2013, comencé a tener horribles dolores de cabeza y a ver doble. Después de que 5 médicos buscaran y trataran la enfermedad equivocada, finalmente encontré al médico adecuado y me diagnosticó cáncer cerebral. Fui hospitalizado durante 7 días. Me hicieron una biopsia y los médicos descubrieron que mi tumor era maligno e inoperable.

Me recomendaron quimioterapia y tratamiento de radiación, los cuales terminé a finales de diciembre de 2013.

Después de casi un año lidiando con los efectos secundarios, terminé con una factura de hospital de aproximadamente un cuarto de millón de dólares, lo que está consumiendo la mayor parte de mis ahorros. Todavía estoy tratando de trabajar para pagarla. Además, en septiembre de 2024, me operaron del ojo para reparar los nervios que el tumor dañó, que fue la razón por la que veía doble. Otros $5000 dólares. Ha sido muy difícil pagar el alquiler, la gasolina, el seguro, los servicios públicos, los comestibles, etc., y ahora con esta economía, se hace más difícil cumplir con esas facturas.

Después de regresar al hospital para mis seguimientos, haciéndome resonancias magnéticas, tomografías computarizadas y análisis de sangre cada seis meses, todo iba bien. El cáncer estaba en remisión hasta el último seguimiento en noviembre de 2025. Hice todos los estudios como lo hacía cada seis meses, pero esta vez los médicos no tenían buenas noticias. Las tomografías computarizadas mostraron que el cáncer se había movido a uno de mis pulmones. Los estudios encontraron un crecimiento de 5 mm en mi pulmón derecho.

Ahora estoy programado para regresar en enero de 2026 para comenzar el tratamiento. El médico quiere entrar y hacer una biopsia, y después de eso, planear el tipo de tratamiento que necesitaré.

Estoy luchando con mis problemas y con el dinero. Estoy pensando muy seriamente en mudarme de regreso a México y simplemente vivir el resto de mi vida con mi familia y amigos si no recaudo suficiente dinero para pagar mis facturas de hospital actuales y futuras tomografías, tal vez resonancias magnéticas, análisis de sangre y visitas al médico, y la factura más aterradora, la del hospital cuando o si recibo tratamiento para mi nuevo cáncer.
