About this fundraiser

Latisha Buchanan is a compassionate and driven medical assistant who has been caring for patients for almost 20 years. In that time, she has also proven her dedication to the medical profession by instructing new medical assistants attending Ross and more recently taking on an equally giving position as a preceptor to medical assistants at the South Bend Clinic. Unfortunately, Latisha or “Tisha” as most refer to her as, has become the patient and needs our support.

Tisha has stage 5 kidney disease (end-stage kidney disease). She has been battling her kidney disease and complicated diabetes for over 2 decades and her diseases are quite literally requiring her to fight for her life. Tisha needs a kidney transplant most urgently, but her surgeon determined that she needed a hysterectomy first. Her uterus was almost entirely covered in fibroids, and her left ovary had an alarmingly large cyst. Both were surgically removed on July 11th. After only 2 weeks off from work to recover and heal, Tisha returned to work due to needing to make financial ends meet. Now, she is preparing for a kidney transplant. Why does she need a transplant? Because she is not a candidate for in-home dialysis because of her diabetes, it would cause her blood sugar to skyrocket to dangerous levels. She would be in financial distress trying to afford life working a full-time position and go to a facility for dialysis multiple times a week for many hours per day. Tisha also has a rare blood type and the odds of finding an appropriate kidney donor are slim but it’s the only option. Once a donor is located, Tisha will have the surgery in Indianapolis and will be unable to work for the entire 3-month hospital stay.

I ask you today, to consider making a financial donation to Tisha, so one less worry can be removed from her plate. Zelle is [email protected] or Cash app $77tisha
