Donny and Alex are the most amazing and loving couple that started their journey to have a family. Recently that dream of having a baby to complete their family has had to be put on pause due to total heartbreak and loss. This is their story…
Alex and Donny bought a cohort of six eggs, and got involved with an IVF clinic, and had an amazing gesticulation carrier (Tarah) all set up. Their health insurance had reproductive healthcare but they didn’t qualify because they weren’t a “traditional couple”, so they had to go all out of pocket. They started the process which was slow and painful. The eggs were delivered to the IVF clinic, thawed, and evaluated. They had embryos tested and only one was viable. The lone viable egg was implanted and it stuck. They had a healthy pregnancy for a short period of time. Then, a few days prior to Christmas, the Longs were told the baby was going into miscarriage. There was no reason for the miscarriage and they never received an answer as to why the miscarriage occurred but one thing was for sure, they were devastated. Especially since it was the only viable egg.
A few months later, the Longs received wonderful news that Alex’s sister, Ashleigh, was expecting in June. She contacted Alex and asked if they would like to adopt the baby. There wasn’t even a discussion needed… they accepted. They very enthusiastically started the process of figuring out all legal avenues to adopt, and then started the planning! They found out ITS A BOY! A baby registry was started and thanks to the love and support of family and friends the baby’s stuff came in and the room started to come together. They were informed the baby would arrive via a planned c-section and the date was given to them. A trip was planned to South Carolina to be there when the baby came, which happened to be Donny‘s mother Laurie’s 70th bday party. During this celebration, Donny suddenly and tragically lost his older brother, JP. He and the family were all devastated. The baby was due a week later which gave them a light to hold during a hard time.
On the day of the c-section, however, everything changed. Ashleigh went into labor that morning. Unfortunately, the baby passed due to complications in labor leaving the Longs completely broken.
“It took a month for me to go in his room. Alex’s family was coming to live with us for a short stint, so I had to get the room ready. Taking everything down, packing it up, and pulling the crib out took our breaths away. The amount of tears, loss of breath, and cracks in our heart! One of the hardest things we have ever been through. Leaning on friends and family to help heal our broken hearts is all we can do.” - Donny Long
I ask if you are able to donate some money to help get the Longs the financial resources make this dream of having a family come true. The costs for eggs alone is 18k for 6, and IVF 13k, the expensive medications and appointments another 10k. The cost for them is immense but what I do know is that they are the most deserving couple with so much love to give to their child!
