Hello, everyone. First, Jaden Rogers (Heather's oldest son) is making this. My family is unaware that I am putting this together. I recognize that my family is not one to take, but based on the conversations I have been having today, we can't afford not to ask for some help.
As many of you may or may not know, our mother, Heather, has been struggling for some time. Over many years, she has been diagnosed with several severe conditions, including fatty liver disease, fibromyalgia, a heart deformity, and most significantly, lupus, among other health issues. Despite these challenges, she has always been a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, and friend.
Unfortunately, as of the past two months, she has declined in her health significantly, because of her lupus attacking her liver. For those who don't know, lupus is a chronic autoimmune condition where your immune system attacks its own healthy cells, mistaking them for something foreign to the body. This is what it has been doing to my mother's organs, and unfortunately, her liver began to stop working. Our mother has been in the hospital for the past month and a half, and we are learning about the damage that has been done to other parts of her body as well. Her liver's dysfunction is sending bad blood throughout the body because its function of cleaning the blood is not working. We learned she needed a transplant.
Miraculously, we got on the list, and the doctors found a liver. As I write this, she is undergoing a liver transplant. We have gotten so lucky during this process. However, that does not change the fact that bills must be paid. She has been at Mass General Hospital for about a month and was at UVM. We are facing a significant financial burden.
I don't like asking for help, but after discussing our situation with my father, I see no other option. We will struggle to cover the medical bills and to maintain the level of care she will need around the clock while she heals from this procedure. We have had to hire a housekeeper, purchase a hospital bed, book multiple hotel stays, and travel frequently between Vermont and Boston to ensure she receives the recovery support required.
My brothers and I wholeheartedly agree that our mother and father are the strongest people we have ever known, and their strength inspires us every day. We want to help relieve some of their stress, but we cannot do it ourselves. My family would greatly appreciate it if you could contribute financially. Sharing this message could help us reach more people if you cannot. I have no expectations; I'm just making a heartfelt plea for assistance. I have never done something like this before, so this is my Hail Mary pass.
I am incredibly grateful for the amazing doctors at Mass General and her care team for moving quickly to get her on the transplant list, finding an organ, and taking care of her through all of this. Thank you ALL for taking the time to read this. We are incredibly grateful to those who have already offered their help—you know who you are, and your support means the world to us. To anyone just learning about our situation, we appreciate you taking the time to understand what has been happening and for your help spreading the word.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Jaden & the rest of the Rogers family (even if they don't know it yet) ;)
