My name is Cvana Clarkson and I am a 25 year old young professional pursuing a Post-Grad Certificate of Music Therapy with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. I started my journey after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University, with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Minor in Computer Science, in May of 2022. Since the day I discovered how both of my passions, of music and pursuing the wellbeing of others, were packed into the one career of Music Therapy, I knew it was what I was meant to do! It is also important for me to note that in my experience seeing the demographics of Music Therapists, there are presently not enough black and brown women in these imperative roles. I’d like to be a familiar face and safe space for those who are often overlooked, underwhelmed, and oppressed. I began my internship last July and will conclude this upcoming July. I am raising money to assist in my financials as I continue to balance work with my internship, prepare to take my board certification exam, and plan for my next steps post-internship.
