In September my family and I came to TN from South Carolina to check on the progress of the remodeling of my home. Due to complications it was not done after 8 months of work and we found out we would not be able to live in or sell the home. There will be a legal battle to come.
Previously, we were staying with my niece in South Carolina, only until the home was done and could sell. This would have worked if our original timeline was followed but after being in her home for 8 months was a lot longer than we anticipated. She is a renter and needed us out. We never intended on having to find a place to stay so abruptly.
We rented a home in TN and were set to go get our belongings the weekend of Sept 29th with the help of friends. This is when Hurricane Helene took an unexpected turn and destroyed the path to South Carolina. There were tornadoes in the town where we lived and flooding. We were not able to get there to retrieve our belongings.
Today, we still have not been able to get our things. We no longer have the money to do so as I am on disability and do not have the money it will take to get there and get them after paying the bills. Everything we have in this world is there. Our furniture, clothing, personal belongings, etc. Literally a 4 bdrm 2 bath house of things. My children have not one thing with them that is theirs. They have said they would even forego Christmas if they could get their own stuff.
We need to get our things before December 1st as the storage rent will go up to 170.00 a month which is double what it was last December when we put our belongings in it. At that point I won't be able to afford it and we will lose everything.
