Our journey began in July 2022 when my husband was diagnosed with undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), a rare soft‑tissue cancer. We traveled 3–3½ hours to Duke University Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a very large tumor. Complications followed when his femoral artery ruptured at home, resulting in a hip disarticulation and loss of his leg. He later developed atrial fibrillation and osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection. After months of antibiotics and hyperbaric oxygen treatments at Duke, the infection finally healed. He now relies on a prosthetic leg and requires a new socket, along with an upcoming TEE and cardioversion.
In April 2025, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and underwent surgery and brachytherapy, which required another month at Duke. I am also dealing with thyroid nodules and severe spinal stenosis with slipped discs, leaving me in constant pain. Making same‑day trips to Duke is no longer manageable, and we now need overnight accommodations. I have tried postponing some medical procedures but both of our cancer follow-ups I need to keep.
As difficult as it is to ask, we truly need help—and prayers.
