  • daddy RD's first surgery of many

He had his first surgery to clean out the knee and they took a piece of his meat & another swab of the infection to send to the lab for the infection doctor to see what antibiotics they need to use to treat his infection with. They had to do a skin graph to be able to close the wound because the skin was so thin & leathery from all the swelling. He will receive his port for his antibiotics tomorrow. The port is for when he comes home and mom and has to take him everyday for 6 weeks to get the 2 hour transfusion of antibiotics to help fight all the infection. We live 45 minutes away without traffic from the hospital, and everyday she takes dad she will have to pay $7 for parking for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks if the infection is finally gone he will have another knee surgery. I will update as soon as we here more information from the doctors.

This is a picture of das from his hospital room this morning.

My father's leg when it began turning red and discharging infection

My father recently has been battling many, many medical struggles. This week we found out that his right knee is rejecting the hardware from his previous total knee replacement he had this past February of 2023. His scar on his knee turned red, swoll out and popped open & then began discharging puss all down his calf. He started to run a high fever within a few hours of this happening. After talking to his knee surgeon later that day about what my dad was experiencing the surgeon suggested we take him immediately to the hospital where he was admitted. During the hospital stay we learned that he will need 2 more knee surgeries which if all goes as planned the first surgery will take place Monday, July 24 for them to take out his old hardware &  put in a plastic knee cap that is coated in a type of antibiotics to help his leg fight off the infection. Then after 6 weeks if the infection is completely gone they will do another total knee replacement. His right leg is extremely infected so during his hospital stay the doctors tried many IV antibiotics that didn't work, so They did a cultural swab to find out what kind of bacteria infection he had. After coming back with the results we learned that my dad will have to get a port put in and be taken to Piedmont Hospital everyday for 6 weeks or more for them to give him antibiotics straight through the port & the doctor stated that he will most likely be on some type of antibiotics for the rest of his life. During all of this that he is currently fighting, he is also on oxygen 24/7 from when his lungs collapsed in 2017 & many more medical conditions he has been dealing with. We decided to start this fund raiser because with the gas my mom will need to take my dad to Piedmont hospital in Athens everyday for 6 weeks or more for the antibiotics through his port, and for them to have money for food, co-pays, my dad's medical bills that are building up fast, dad's many new prescriptions that are costly & other everyday life expenses that they need help for. We have never set up a fund before and we always prayed that we never would be in the situation to do so, but here we are.. this is an unexpected emergency and it's been stressful for my father & mother and the last thing we want is for them to worry about their bills and gas in the car during this health trial.

Thank y'all for your time!
