On February 24th at about 1 pm , my friend Larrys' house xaught on fire. When he saw the smoke coming jn above his door to his room on the second floor, he immediately was alarmed. As he flung the door open, he yelled FIRE, as he ran down the stairs through the black smoke filling his house. He amd the other two that were downstairs unaware of what was happening tried to put it out. To my amazement, even after emptying a fire extinguisher onto the flames and what we all could do to smother it, it wouldn't let up. After getting everyone out, Larry and I went to keeping the garden hoses on the fire inside that he had brought up, until the fire department t got there. Unfortunately it couldn't be saved and the house burnt to the ground.
He lost everything from work equipment, to fishing poles and supplies, mechanic tools, pictures, antiques, technical devices, Persian rug, his marlin he had caught and was hanging over the fishing room. His bikes , his pictures, everything he had for the last 40 years of his life. Including his house of twenty years and his Trans am. Not to mention at the moment we can not find his dog of 9 years which we believe ran off with mine as well and may have been picked up.
If it hadnt been for larry and his bravery we all would have perished in the fire. Because of him, the other three that were in the house myself included -were able to make it out alive. Including three dogs for certain. Two additional dogs are in question.
The two, Rex and little b.b. ,We still have question whether Rex went back in , or if little b.b. didn't follow. Until confirmation though we are still hopeful and are still currently searching for them and will until we find out otherwise.
Though we all lost everything, including two other renters of his ,(though they were not home at the time of the fire). this was Larry's home . And he had no Insurance.
The funds would be used to help clean up the fire site, and purchase materials to rebuild . This was a two story, three bedroom two bath with full basement and garage. So three stories in all.
Larry opened his home to us who lived with him, and has been a good friend and mentor to many. He is always willing to come to the rescue and would give you the shirt off his back if you truly needed it. His home was full of wonderful memories of laughter and good times. sitting around watching the football games, BBQ 's and always a fridge full of food. A warm meal and a couch should you need to stay a night or two. Always full of humor and good spirits his kindness and warmth filled his home.
I ask, that if you would be so inclined, please assist us in giving back to a man who has given so much to so many over the years. Your contributions will truly help a man who not only lost everything he owned and his house, but is also lost without his precious Rex.A gladiator doberman he has had for 9 years and he was truly Larrys best friend.
