About this fundraiser

Hi, my name is Azariel Hawkins, and I’m reaching out during one of the hardest times our family has ever faced. On April 11, 2025, we welcomed our beautiful baby girl, Alarah, into the world.

Alarah has been diagnosed with a serious heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot—a rare condition that affects normal blood flow through the heart.

Because of this condition, Alarah isn’t getting enough oxygenated blood. Her breathing is labored, and her tiny heart is working far harder than it should. Initially, we were told that surgery would happen around 4 to 6 months of age, after she had grown stronger. In the meantime, we’ve had frequent (weekly) pediatric and cardiology appointments to monitor her closely.

Last Friday, her oxygen levels dropped dangerously low—into the 60s—and we were rushed to the hospital. We’ve been here ever since. Despite attempts to wean her off oxygen, she can’t sustain healthy levels on her own and is now on constant oxygen support. Medication to ease the strain on her heart hasn’t been effective, and the care team has made the decision: Alarah needs surgical intervention now.

Because her body is still so small—she’s just over a month old and only 5 pounds—she will now require multiple surgical procedures. The first is happening soon, within days. Another one is expected around 3 months of age, and the full repair will take place closer to 6 months (Assuming we can stick to this plan)

They are also thinking she may have lung disease as well but it cannot be tested for until after her full heart repair

This means extended hospital stays, long periods away from home, and many added financial burdens. The hospital is an hour from our house, and my husband, our other children, and I are staying at the hospital and nearby hotels to stay close in case of emergencies. We don’t know when we’ll be able to return home for good.

We are doing everything we can to care for Alarah and our family—but we need help. Travel, food, hotel stays, are quickly piling up. We’re asking for any support you can give during this incredibly difficult time.
