Hi, my name is Joe. I need help saving my home. Due to past and recent hardships, I have fallen behind in mortgage payments. My father-in-law, who was helping us pay for the mortgage after my wife and I lost our jobs, passed away a couple of years ago, leaving us not only with the hearbreaking loss, but also with a debt to a nursing home, and the loss of the money he had contributed to our household. He lived with us, his grandchildren (our children) and his ex-wife, who still lives with us to this day, and his favorite, our dog Copper.

His passing began a period of hardship where we have struggled to keep up with payments. This was compounded by a medical emergency involving my wife. She was complaining one day of chest pain, and the feeling that anything she ate was stuck at the top of her stomach, feeling as if it would not go down. We went to the emergency room where they performed a bunch of tests and determined that her gall bladder needed to be removed. Usually, this is a routine procedure, but while my wife was in recovery after the surgery, she suffered a heart attack. It was touch and go, where I almost lost her. We were both out of work for her recovery which was over a month. I used up almost all my leave, but my wife did not get paid at all during that time.

I took on a second job as a delivery driver to try to make ends meet, but with inflation, and the cost of living going up, we have been treading water, falling behind in everything. We slowly fell behind in our mortgage payments, and now we may be in danger of losing our home. We have worked our way back to a point where, if we can get even and pay the past due balances, we would be able to make ends meet from month to month. But once you fall behind, it becomes impossible to catch up. We have tried to access the equity in our home but we have been denied due to our credit scores taking a dive after all thst has happened in the last few years.
