As many of you know, Sienna was born with complex birth defects, also known as VACTERL. The condition is a series of anomalies that are present at birth and throughout life. Sienna has had a multitude of surgeries and procedures since she was 2 days old. For the last 4 months Sienna has been suffering from abdominal/ back pain that comes on with maximal intensity. We have been hospitalized the majority of November. No one in Fargo was able to help, so we were sent to MN children’s in Minneapoils. Sienna had a large stool burden amongst several other issues. it Took 7 days of aggressive bowel clean out. After discharge we ended up back in the ER (in Fargo) that night and were admitted for pain management. Sienna was able to go back to school for 5 days before the pain came back more aggressively. After spending Sunday (Nov 23rd) morning in Urgent Care and Sunday evening in the ER, the providers recommended we drive to Chicago to get help at Lurie’s Childrens hospital. Shortly after getting here we met the colo-rectal/ cloaca team. We have the best team anyone could ask for. They have visualized a dilated fallopian tube that appears to be twisting in on itself. They are draining her suppressed menstrual flow into a a gravity bag and flushing. As her condition changes we will post updates. Our insurance is out of network and ND Medicaid does not apply in this state. So we are asking for help from friends and family to assist us in getting through this next chapter. We will need to go back and forth, from Fargo to Chicago.
