  • One Month Old!

Viggo is one month old! He continues to show immense strength and bravery every day. From our original post to now, Viggo has undergone another surgery, has had to fight two infections and remains on dialysis 22 hours a day. Our warrior continues to amaze all of us and fight all of his battles with such grace!

We wanted to share a bit about the beads seen in Viggo’s pictures. These are Beads of Courage, each bead represents a treatment, procedure or milestone. These beads are a beautiful and tangible way to see just how much Viggo has gone through in his short life.

We want to spread our continued thanks for all of the support, prayers and love we have received! Without you our day to day would be harder!

    Lots of love, The Wakefields

About this fundraiser

Hi we're Rachel and Aaron. On May 30th we welcomed our son Viggo to the world at only 36 weeks. Viggo entered this world with end-stage kidney disease, which means he has been a fighter since day one! He has already had two surgeries and is now on dialysis 24/7. We have a very long journey ahead of us with dialysis, many medications, and an eventual transplant. Each day is a battle and Viggo is already handling it like the warrior he is!

As time goes on we are faced with not only the stress of having our baby in the NICU, but also our other children at home. On top of everything we have rent, utilities, groceries, and now many medical bills weighing over our heads. Being able to relieve some of the financial burden would be the greatest blessing. We already have limited time with Viggo and our other children so taking some of the stress away would mean the world to us! We are currently looking to relocate closer to the hospital as we live 45 minutes away, so we will be incurring all of the expenses related to moving as well. We will be uprooting our children's lives and moving to a less desirable area for upwards of 5 years. Viggo will have ongoing medical treatment for years until he is able to get a transplant and even after, so we need to be closer to the hospital. Aaron has been on long term leave while Viggo has been in NICU and prior when Rachel had to be inpatient during pregnancy to have extra monitoring for Viggo's condition. This means we are surviving on one income that is currently at a reduced rate. We are unable to do any outside work currently due to our other children at home and this has left our family in a very challenging financial situation.

We are grateful for anything you are able to contribute and your generosity truly helps us get through this difficult time. We will post updates periodically on this site as progress happens and we will see this through until Viggo is the happy healthy boy he is meant to be! We are blessed to have an amazing team of doctors and nurses helping us and we are equally blessed to have all of the tremendous support we are receiving. We appreciate anything you can do to help and always encourage good thoughts and prayers for our sweet Viggo as well.
