My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago. She had a mastectomy a few months back but they kept finding more cancer. It’s in her liver, lungs, hips, spine and some other spots. She fell and broke her hip not too long after the mastectomy. So she’s been in a nursing home for rehab or a hospital for almost 4 months. She has dementia and the cancer is making it worse. We had a room for her at a private pay facility but she lost her room due to not being able to pass the physical testing needed to go back. I paid a fortune to get her in there. It was most of what we had left. She never even spent a night there because she fell her first night. There were no refunds. She has used all of her rehab days that Medicare covered so, the place she is at now is $215 a day. She constantly forgets she can’t walk so she’ll try to walk and fall. She just fell again today. She needs to be in a skilled nursing facility that can provide the 24 hour care she needs. I doubt she has a year considering she has an aggressive form of cancer that spreads quickly. She deserves better care in her final days. 
We never expected everything to go wrong at once. She needs to be in a nicer place. She needs somewhere to go because she isn’t safe at home. We may have some assets freed up in a few months so I figured $20000 for 6 months would at least keep us from drowning. She never had a lot of the things passed on to her by mother put in her name so I’m having to deal with an attorney for that. The estate is going to have to go into probate so we can’t touch any of it for 6 months. My wife and I don’t have the credit required for a loan and don‘t have savings. I haven’t really mentioned her bills yet. I have had health problems from the stress. I have power of attorney and I want to provide her with the care she needs until she passes.
