Hi friends! 🤍
My dog recently got diagnosed with diabetes at the age of six years old. He’s a beautiful German shepherd who has the purest heart, he’s my soulmate in every life, my best friend, and companion. My family and I bought him when I was only 13 years old during COVID-19, and because of the financial struggles I had to get a job at 14 years old to help support my furry best friend. I started working as a hostess in my small town restauran and worked my way up to a waitress at 16 years old. I’ve been providing for Spanky all these years even when I was a kid myself. I have absolutely no regrets till this day I’d do it over again to have him in every life time. Spanky was an obese dog at the time who loved digging in the trash. I’m the eldest child who helped raised my three younger brothers while doing my best in high school. I made it pretty far in life and everything was going great.
I joined the Idaho Army National Guard to benefit my future family but as a I left I had to say goodbye to my best friend for 5 months. As I was gone for those couple of months Spanky became very depressed as he was separated from me. I came home right in time for Christmas and reunited with Spanky, however, I noticed that he had lost a significant amount of weight. I realized that he wasn’t eating as much as he did before and at first I thought it was a good thing that we found a good diet for him. Unfortunately it wasn’t the answer as I took Spanky on a walk one day I realized he was limping, hiding his tail, and unable to walk without collapsing on the concrete. I rushed him back home contacting the vet who took him in a week later at their soonest availability. They claimed nothing seemed to be an issue and prescribed him pain medication. I left again for my Annual Army Training in April and could not receive any service out in the middle of nowhere. Once I reached service again my mother called me stating that Spanky’s eyes were really cloudy and red and she rushed him to the emergency veterinary hospital, this is when we found out that poor Spanky had diabetes. It was been a tough process trying to navigate through life with a diabetic dog especially since there isn’t much resources to go off of. He’s currently taking prescribed food specifically made for dogs with diabetes and receiving insulin twice a day. His blood sugar levels have improved significantly since then and he’s been much happier.
Unfornunately Spanky’s medications is becoming too much for me to handle on my own. Im currently saving up to rent a place where my dogs and I can live together again while I attend college at Boise State University for Nursing. Im currently working full time as a CNA and MedTech at a nursing home, in addition to selling items on Depop, home baked goods, and Doordashing to save up as much as I can which this would all go towards Spanky’s specials needs so that we can stay afloat. I’m managing by myself but could be doing a lot better with the support of others. If you could donate even $1 it would be very appreciated, if not all I ask is that you pray for Spanky as he was only given two years left without surgery.
