Helping our sweet Charlie fight Lymphoma
Charlie came into my life right when I needed him most. After a tough life in Puerto Rico, where he was badly abused, Charlie came to my side right after the COVID lockdown. He helped me get back outside and gave me a daily companion. If you know him, you know he’s a total fighter—but right now, he needs a little extra help from his friends.
Back in February, things got scary. What we thought was just a skin issue, multiple lesions growing all over his body that seemed resistant to antibiotics. This landed Charlie in the ER for three days. That’s when we got the news that broke our hearts: Multicentric Lymphoma.
We started his chemo right away, and a range of medication to manage the symptoms, and Charlie has been an absolute champ through all of it. For a while, it seemed to work really well. The lesions were healing, and he was feeling great. After two months, however, the chemo stopped being as effective. We've just started a new protocol called Elspar, and we’re staying positive. As long as Charlie is still wagging his tail and fighting, we’re right there with him.
The reality of such a complicated treatment plan has been a lot to handle. Between that first ER visit with a 3-night stay ($7,655) and weekly treatments that cost around $1,400 each, we’ve completely drained our savings and maxed out our cards.
Charlie and I were so lucky to get some help from the ‘Buddy Fund’ at the animal hospital, but that's almost gone now. We’re trying to raise $13,000 just to make sure Charlie can keep getting his treatments without us having to stop because of the cost.
How you can help
- Donate: no amount is too small. Even $5 helps us buy Charlie more time.
- Share: Please share this post! Getting Charlie’s plea out there means everything to us.
- Pay the vet directly: If you’re more comfortable donating directly to the hospital for Charlie's care, you can call Schwarzman AMC at (212) 838-8100 and put credit on his account.
Every cent goes to his chemo, vet visits, and making sure he’s comfortable and pain-free. If we ever reach a point where treatment isn't an option anymore, any extra funds will be used to make sure his goodbye is as peaceful as possible.
Charlie has spent his whole life making us smile. Now, we’re doing everything we can to do the same for him. Thank you so much for the love, the prayers, and any help you can give.
