Today I met this beautiful and strong woman sitting in a Starbucks. I was there in an attempt to get some homework done. To my right was a lady named El. She was there with her three year old daughter, who I forgot the name of, attempting to find affordable housing for the two of them. Her daughter, which I later found out had autism, was being a little rambunctious to say the least. Feeling uncomfortable in the spot she was in she and her daughter got up to move someplace else. A few minutes later I decided to leave. El stopped me and apologized for her daughter and explained that she had autism. I was not leaving because of her daughter, but because I was not able to access my school work. I sat with El for a while and helped her look for a place to call home. After, calling countless places with no luck she informed me that she had to get back to the Salvation Army so she and her daughter didn’t miss dinner. I decided that I would buy her and her daughters dinner. Over dinner she told me her story of being medically retired due to a condition that caused deterioration of her bones. She explained how she got into the situation of being unhoused. She also expressed how she wanted the best life for her daughter, even if that meant she had to give her daughter to the system. She shared stories of abuse, stories of pain, stories of estrangement, and stories of living in her car with her daughter. She moved to Okc to live with family who instead of supporting her, they called her daughter slurs and ultimately made it an unsafe environment for her and her daughter. Moving was supposed to be a fresh start, which quickly unraveled. I want El and her daughter to get their fresh start which is why I am creating this go fund me. This money would go towards helping her and her daughter find not only a place to call home, but it would give her the opportunity to get her daughter proper counseling. Ultimately the money would help El find contentment in life. I am doing this fundraiser without the knowledge of El. Any support means the world!
