Every day I wake up and calculate how much energy I have and what I can afford to spend it on. Showering costs energy. Getting dressed costs energy. Making a meal costs energy. For most people these are automatic. For me they are negotiations with a body that has a very limited budget. I have Hyperadrenergic POTS, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Stage 4 Lipedema, and MCAS. Standing and moving trigger my autonomic nervous system into crisis. My heart rate spikes, my blood pressure surges, and my body goes into alarm mode over tasks that take other people seconds. In April 2026 carpet raking sent my blood pressure to 178/122 and required an EMS response. A normal chore. Right now I do my best. I pace myself. I rest between tasks. I sit on the edge of my bed to fold laundry. I lean against the counter to do dishes. But there are days I cannot do any of it and my house suffers and so does my dignity. A power mobility scooter would allow me to move through my own home without triggering dangerous flares. It would let me get to my kitchen, my laundry, my back door to let my dogs out, without spending the energy I need just to exist. It would give me back the ability to take care of myself and my home on the days my body says no to everything. I live alone. No one is coming to help. A scooter is not a convenience. It is my independence. I also need a ramp built so I can take my scooter outside for doctor appointments and grocery trips. The cost of lumber and labor is another challenge unless I can find volunteers locally.
