Hello everyone, Thanks for reading my story and I hope to find you well.

My name is Jake and I'm an average guy, 53 years old and a father of 2 boys age 15 and 18.

October 2021 I went to the hospital because I had developed a lump on my neck and was concerned about it. After an x-ray I was told I had cancer, I had a biopsy shortly after and was confirmed cancer. This type of head and neck cancer is very treatable and I should come out of this just fine. I went through I think 32 rounds of radiation and 7 rounds of chemotherapy. I refused a feeding tube and port and just fought through it, I lost about 40 pounds and lived on a liquid diet for several months. I had started to get my appetite back and my energy level was increasing and my scans came back with good results, I still had a very small mass that the radiation didn’t get so I had an operation to remove it and was finally cancer free! After my recovery I went back to work and was so happy to have a new lease on life. It was short lived, a few months later I developed incredible pain in my back and ribs that didn’t go away after a couple weeks so I went back to my doctor, a few scans later was told I had terminal cancer, it had come back strong and found it’s way onto my ribs, close to my spine. I had 10 rounds of radiation to shrink the tumor and relieve some of the pain, I was told I had maybe a year to live. I was devastated and at my lowest. I took a permanent leave from my job and got my affairs in order.
I was offered to take part in a trial at Dana Fabre cancer center and I jumped at the chance, I’m undergoing immunotherapy every 2 weeks in Boston and apparently it’s working very well, I had my latest scan on August 16th and it has not moved and my symptoms haven’t got any worse. perhaps I can live a few more years now and that’s a great feeling.
my biggest thing now, is to make memories with my boys, we don’t talk about my health situation but they are aware of it.

I can collect disability and it helps very much with my living expenses but that’s about it. I have health insurance for now but it doesn’t cover everything by a long shot. I’m getting by but it’s not enough. I have to start thinking of funeral expenses, money to buy my younger son his first car, pay off my credit debt, go on a real vacation with my boys. There’s so many things I want to accomplish before I pass.
thanks for reading my story and your donations
