Help Us Save Our Family Homes and Preserve Our Grandparents’ Legacy
My sister and I are reaching out with hope, humility, and a deep love for the homes that have been part of our family for generations.
These are not just houses to us. They are the homes where we were raised, where our memories were made, and where our grandparents worked hard to create a future for their family. After our grandparents passed away, our mom and aunt gave these homes to us so we could keep them in the family, have a place of our own, and continue the legacy they built.
In their final years, my sister and I cared for our grandparents through some of the hardest times. Our nanny battled bone cancer and suffered many strokes, and our papaw lived with Alzheimer’s and dementia and if you knew our papaw he was a strong opinionate man so things weren't easy. They were very good people. We were there for them, and now we are trying to protect the homes they loved and worked so hard for.
Unfortunately, the homes have fallen into serious disrepair, and the city required us to vacate them. We are now paying rent and utilities elsewhere while trying to save enough money to restore the properties. We are currently about $17,000 behind in property taxes, and we estimate we need around $60,000 total to bring the homes back to a safe, livable condition and take care of the taxes.
I am disabled, and my sister is unable to work because she provides childcare for her grandchildren. We are doing everything we can, but with limited income, rent, bills, and our credit history making traditional loans impossible, getting the help we need has been extremely difficult. Because we are not currently allowed to live in the homes, we also do not qualify for many assistance programs.
We are not asking because we don’t care or because we haven’t tried. We are asking because these homes mean generations of family, memories, and a future for our children and grandchildren.
Our dream is simple: to restore these homes, move back in, and make sure our grandchildren can continue to have a place connected to their family history.
If you are able to donate, share, offer advice, connect us with resources, contractors, organizations, or anyone who may be able to help, we would be beyond grateful. Even sharing our story could help us reach someone who knows a path forward.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for helping us try to save a piece of our family’s history.

A small breakdown of what we need :

17000.00 of the funds are for back property taxes. There is currently 1200 needed to keep our payment plan with the city of Columbus for that. Whats left should give us enough for the plans and permits the city requir  while making you jump through hoops to get work approved to be done and the minimum we can get done to move home. We can figure the rest out once we're back home.

I know this is a lot of money and everyone is struggling these days. Again,  even a share could help

Thank you thank you for even reading this.
