For the past several years, Amanda and her mother have devoted themselves to caring for their grandmother/mother as she faces the challenges of dementia, a responsibility that recently transitioned into requiring round-the-clock supervision. On top of this heavy role, Amanda recently endured the heartbreaking loss of her beloved Pomeranian, Daisy, who passed after a long battle with metastasized breast cancer.

Tragically, the grief of losing Daisy masked subtle symptoms of an even deeper health crisis.

On August 24, 2026, Amanda was rushed to the emergency room with severe paleness, lightheadedness, and tingling in her hands and feet. Recognizing the severity of her condition, doctors transferred her to Ventura County Hospital. There, following extensive testing and a painful bone marrow biopsy, Amanda received a terrifying diagnosis: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Fortunately, her medical team acted quickly to transfer her to the City of Hope in Duarte, CA, a hospital specializing in cancer treatment. Amanda has since completed an initial round of aggressive chemotherapy and is currently recovering in the hospital. Over the coming weeks, she faces two separate bone marrow biopsies to monitor her progress, assess whether further treatment is needed, and determine if she has entered remission. Under the best-case scenario, Amanda will remain hospitalized through at least mid-October.

While Amanda’s ongoing care at City of Hope is covered, her emergency room care, initial diagnostic testing, ambulance transport, and pre-transfer hospital stays are not. Furthermore, this sudden crisis has forced her entire life, and that of her immediate support system, on complete pause.
