# Help Me Avoid Homelessness — I Have Until November 10 to Find a Home

**After rebuilding my life from homelessness three years ago, I'm now facing eviction because of a Section 8 paperwork error. My deadline to move is November 10, 2026, and I'm still waiting for the Housing Authority to give me a hearing.**

My name is Cory, and I'm reaching out during one of the most difficult times of my life.

Three years ago, I was homeless. After struggling to rebuild my life, I finally secured an apartment through the Section 8 housing assistance program. Having a place to call home gave me stability, security, and an opportunity to get my life back on track.

Now, I'm facing the possibility of becoming homeless all over again.

Earlier this year, the Housing Authority sent my annual recertification paperwork to the wrong address. Because I never received the documents, I had no idea my housing assistance was in jeopardy. My Section 8 benefits were terminated at the end of March 2026 without me receiving the required notices.

By the time I learned what happened, my landlord had begun charging me the full monthly rent, an amount I could not afford without the assistance I had been receiving.

**I immediately took action to try to correct the situation.**

On August 31, 2026, I formally requested an informal hearing with the Housing Authority to challenge the termination of my benefits. I also notified them about the incorrect mailing address and repeatedly attempted to contact them.

**As of today, I'm still waiting for my hearing to be scheduled.**

Unfortunately, while I've been waiting for the Housing Authority to address the problem, my eviction case has continued through the court system.

On October 9, 2026, I attended court and was given until **November 10, 2026, to move out**.

That means I could lose my home before I even get the opportunity to challenge the decision that caused this situation.

### I'm Fighting to Keep My Housing, but I Need a Backup Plan

I'm continuing to pursue my hearing and explore every available option to correct my Section 8 situation. I haven't given up on saving my home.

But I also have to face the reality that November 10 is approaching, and I don't have the money necessary to secure another apartment on such short notice.

After experiencing homelessness before, the thought of going through that again is terrifying. I've worked hard to rebuild my life, and I'm doing everything I can to avoid losing that progress.

### How Your Donations Will Help

The money raised will help cover:

- Security deposit and first month's rent for another apartment.
- Rental application fees and move-in expenses.
- Moving costs and transportation.
- Temporary housing if I cannot find a permanent place before November 10.
- Essential expenses needed to remain safe and housed during this transition.

**I'm not asking for a handout to avoid responsibility. I'm asking for help getting through a housing emergency while I wait for a fair opportunity to challenge what happened.**

Every donation, no matter how small, will bring me one step closer to keeping a roof over my head.

If you're unable to donate, sharing my fundraiser could be just as meaningful. Someone in your network may be able to help.

Three years ago, I fought my way out of homelessness. I never imagined that an address error and an unresolved housing assistance termination could put me at risk of going back.

**November 10 is my deadline. My hearing is still pending. And I'm asking for help before it's too late.**

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for your kindness, and for giving me a chance to remain safely housed.

With sincere gratitude,

**Cory**
