Last month, my daughter Athena had a severe fall from a slide during recess. What started as a trip to urgent care quickly escalated to a trip to Patriot Urgent Care, then Calvert Memorial, and ultimately required us to be rushed to Children’s Hospital in DC.

Thanks to the generosity of a few people early on, I was able to cover my household bills for the initial week I needed off to care for her.

Now that the surgery has passed, the reality of the financial aftermath has arrived. As a single mother on a limited income, navigating three separate medical bills from this emergency is overwhelming.
