À propos de cette collecte de fonds

March 2023, during an already difficult time for our family, my 11 year old daughter became very ill, with what we thought at the time was a stomach bug. After two days of not keeping anything (even water!) down, a sudden drop in weight, and severe fatigue, she eventually developed shortness of breath. It was at this point I rushed her to an emergency room for help. We learned she was in diabetic ketoacidosis at which point she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and transferred via ambulance to the nearest children's inpatient hospital where we spent three days in the ICU getting her out of DKA and learning all about how to care for her going forward.

There have been a lot of other things going on in the background that put me here that I won't go into, as my child is the priority here.

After eight months of multiple daily injections, my little girl has mentally and emotionally had it. I need to get her on an insulin pump, but even with our otherwise “good” insurance, our initial cost is almost $2000 just to get t-slim pump and first 90 days of infusion supplies then $200 for 90 days infusion supplies after that, or for omnipod $400 or more monthly depending on number of pods she will need, plus vials of insulin, and other supplies. Not to mention the other expenses piling up for her current prescriptions, office visits, twice a month therapy with a LCSW who specializes in helping kids cope with T1D, and all the fuel to get to and from those appointments (it's a 50 mile drive one way, there are no pediatric endocrinologists closed to us).

My little girl is breaking down any time we need to dose for a meal or a correction. For the sake of her mental health, I need to get her switched to an insulin pump. A site change every two or three days would be such a lifesaver for her vs numerous injections daily. I just don't have the funds all at once right now to get her started. While I am working on saving up, I am hoping for maybe a miracle to help make this transition happen for her a little faster. Please consider donating. Any little bit helps and would be so so appreciated. Funds raised will go to my daughter's insulin pump, insulin, and other necessary supplies, with the remainder going towards appointment copays and fuel to get to and from all of her appointments at the children's specialty hospital.
