Help Our Family Through a Medical and Financial Crisis
Asking for help is something my husband has never been comfortable with. He has always worked hard to provide for our family, and we never imagined we would find ourselves in a position where we would need to reach out to strangers for financial assistance. But I’ve come to realize that sometimes we just can’t get through life’s hardest seasons alone.
My husband has spent the past 20 years working in HVAC and refrigeration. It’s a physically demanding career, and for nearly two years, he continued working while dealing with severe back pain from a ruptured disc that has been putting pressure on his sciatic nerve. He pushed through the pain day after day because he knew our family depended on him.
Eventually, the pain became more than he could bear, and he could no longer physically do his job. He stepped away from work for medical reasons and requested FMLA leave. Unfortunately, his leave was denied, and he was terminated from his job. We didn’t even learn about his termination until approximately a month after he had stepped away to address his health.
My husband was the only financial provider for our household.
I’ve been a stay-at-home mom caring for our young daughter, who has autism and is nonverbal. She receives 25 hours of ABA therapy each week to help her with communication, learning, and everyday skills. Her progress means everything to us, and making sure she continues receiving the help she needs is so important.
Around the same time we lost our only income, we were also faced with a large outstanding therapy bill because of previous billing issues at her provider’s office. Thankfully, her ongoing therapy is now covered by Medicaid, but we still have a balance from services she received before that coverage began. Her provider has been working with us, and we’re very thankful for that, but we still need to get that balance paid so there’s no possibility of it interfering with her continued care.
My husband is scheduled to have back surgery in November 2026, and we’ve been told his recovery could take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. During that time, I’ll be taking care of him and our daughter while also trying to figure out how to keep everything going financially.
With no income coming into our home, we’ve fallen several months behind on our mortgage. We’ve made the heartbreaking decision to put our home on the market in hopes of avoiding foreclosure. Unfortunately, with what we owe and the costs involved in selling, even that isn’t looking very promising.
We’ve started selling our furniture and personal belongings to help cover bills. It’s helped a little, but most of what we’re selling doesn’t hold much value, and it just isn’t enough to keep up with everything.
We’ve even looked into moving our family into a camper because we’re trying to find a more affordable way to live. We’re willing to make sacrifices if it means keeping our family together and having somewhere safe to call home. Unfortunately, finding something affordable that will work for us, along with somewhere to put it, hasn’t been easy either. Even going this route comes with additional expenses, including the monthly cost of an RV lot.
The hardest part is not knowing what comes next. Our house could sell at any time, and if it does, we will need somewhere else to live. As much as we would love to stay in our home while my husband recovers, we also know that without an income, we may still have to sell it afterward. We don’t want to wait until we’re forced to leave to figure out where our family is going to go.
This has been one of the hardest seasons our family has ever faced. It’s heartbreaking watching everything we’ve worked for become so uncertain. I never imagined we would be facing the possibility of losing our home while my husband is preparing for surgery and our daughter needs so much stability in her life.
I honestly hate that it’s come to this, but our family genuinely needs help.
Any donations we receive will go toward our past-due mortgage and housing expenses, utilities, groceries, essential bills, our daughter’s outstanding therapy balance, medical expenses related to my husband’s surgery and recovery, and securing safe housing if we’re unable to keep our home.
More than anything, I just want my husband to be able to have his surgery and recover without constantly worrying about how we’re going to survive. I want our daughter to continue getting the care she needs, and I want our family to have a chance to get back on our feet.
We’re not asking for a life of luxury. We’re simply hoping for the opportunity to get through this difficult time and begin rebuilding our lives.
If you’re able to help, no matter how small the amount, please know how much it would mean to our family. And even if you’re not in a position to give, thank you for taking the time to read our story and for keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity.
May God bless you tenfold for the kindness you show to others.
With love and gratitude,
Our Family
